African Sanctus and High I’m…  – 07 July 2018 at 7.30pm

Keneish Dance join forces with Sheffield Oratorio Chorus to present a memorable evening of Afro Contemporary Dance and African Classical Music.

The first half is High I’m… – an intimate and fascinating health story, charting the recovery from addiction from a new, thought-provoking perspective that effortlessly goes from vibrant exuberance to haunting beauty.

High I’m… is a spiritual journey of an individual recovering from addiction. It’s about missed connections, past memories, and future.  Often a taboo and difficult subject that is tackled through an invigorating and eclectic Afro – contemporary dance display.

In the second half Sheffield Oratorio Chorus sing David Fanshawes iconic ‘African Sanctus’ – a hair raising score that interweaves tribal sounds from Egypt, Sudan, Uganda and Kenya with Western Classical music and African Contemporary Dance.

“African Songs and Dances, religious recitations and ceremonies would live within the heart of a work conceived along Western lines in the form of mass. The driving force is one of praise and a firm belief in god”. Fanshawe
